Bayaji Appa Kote
Bayaji Appa Kote
Bayaji Appa Kote Patil was a landowner of Shirdi who knew Baba from his childhood. His family's house was one of the few homes where Baba begged for bhiksha throughout his life in Shirdi. Bayaji said that in the early years Baba came to their door many times a day, and in his final years once a day. From the age of eleven Bayaji served Baba personally.
Bayaji was strong and devoted, and he helped Baba in his last years, supporting him as he walked and massaging his tired body. For the last fourteen years of Baba's life, Baba gave Bayaji four rupees every day, even on the day of the Mahasamadhi. Baba told him never to lend or waste this money. Bayaji saved it, bought land with it, and his family prospered.
On Vijayadashami, 15 October 1918, Baba sat up in the Dwarakamai, leaned on Bayaji's body and quietly took his last breath. The Satcharitra records that Baba left this world resting on Bayaji Appa Kote, a sign of the closeness between them.
