Life Story

Nanasaheb Kharkhar

Shridhar Narayan Kharkar was an accountant at the Government Secretariat who lived in Thana. He was raised by a religious grandfather and was strict in his worship. His first contact with Baba came when Appa Kulkarni showed him Baba's picture. Soon after, Hemadpant gave him another picture, copies of the Sai Leela magazine and a packet of udi. After recovering from an illness, he began to worship Baba regularly.

At first he kept Baba's picture apart from that of Akkalkot Maharaj, whom he already worshipped, because he thought of Baba as a Muslim. That night he dreamt of a fakir like Baba, and a voice told him that Baba and Akkalkot Maharaj were not different. The next morning he placed the two pictures together and worshipped both. In time his wife, children and even his orthodox mother, who had first objected, became devoted to Baba.

Years later his daughter faced a dangerous delivery in a village near Thana, with no doctor available. Kharkar's wife applied Baba's udi, and within an hour the child was delivered and the mother's life was saved. A week before, his son had dreamt of Baba telling them to use the udi. Kharkar said Baba had both warned them and shown them the remedy.
