Sri Narayan Asram
Sri Narayan Asram
Sri Narayan Asram, whose name before sannyas was Toser, worked in the Customs Department in Bombay for 31 years. In 1895 he saw a Guru in a dream, but did not know who it was. In 1910 he heard Das Ganu's kirtan about Sai Baba, and within five days went to Shirdi. He recognised Baba at once as the Guru of his dream, and visited nine times in the next six months.
In those days the crowds were small and Baba was mostly silent. Baba spoke to him only briefly, in plain and direct words, and conveyed to him, without words, that all differences between souls are unreal. At Shirdi he preferred to sit alone at Sathe Wada rather than in the crowded Masjid.
After retiring in 1926 he walked the pilgrimage around the Narmada river from 1927 to 1930. In 1931 he took sannyas as Narayan Asram and lived at the Vaman Math in Wai, Satara district. He remained a quiet, deeply spiritual devotee of Baba.
