Tatyasaheb Nulkar
Life Story

Tatyasaheb Nulkar

Tatyasaheb Nulkar was a sub-judge at Pandharpur and a friend of Nanasaheb Chandorkar. When Nanasaheb urged him to visit Baba, Nulkar was doubtful. He set two conditions: that a Brahmin cook should travel with him, and that he would be offered good Nagpur oranges as a gift. Both happened on their own, and he decided to go.

In 1909 he came to Shirdi and quickly became devoted. He retired and spent his last years in Shirdi in Baba's service, attending every arati and sitting near Baba in the Dwarakamai.

Nulkar passed away in Shirdi in 1910. As he lay dying, Baba sent him holy water from his own feet. When news of his death reached the Dwarakamai, Baba said, "Tatya has gone ahead and will not be born again." Devotees took this as a sign that Nulkar had reached liberation.
