Justice Mega

Justice M. B. Rege was a judge of the High Court of Indore, a learned man with B.A. and LL.B. degrees. His family worshipped Shanta Durga of Goa, and from childhood he was deeply devoted to Lord Vishnu. Without any guru he practised meditation and could sit for hours in contemplation.

In 1910, when he was 21, he had a vision one night. He felt himself apart from his body, and Lord Vishnu stood before him. In a second vision, Vishnu stood beside another figure and said, "This is Sai Baba of Shirdi. He is your man; you must go to him." Rege went to Shirdi and recognised Baba at once as the one in his vision.

Baba often spoke in parables that each listener understood differently. When Rege told Baba he could not follow such mystic talk and asked him to speak plainly, Baba always spoke to him in plain words from then on. Rege saw Baba as the Creator, Preserver and Destroyer, and believed that after the Mahasamadhi Baba remained present in his infinite form. He remained a lifelong devotee and a respected guide to other Sai devotees.
