Nagarsankeertans were also conducted once in a week and also on special occasions in the houses of devotees as per the programme drawn for a month. There was no separate unit or Samithi for Saroornagar devotees for taking up Sri Sathya Sai Service Activities till the year of 1990. Devotees of Saroornagar used to participate in Bhajans and other service activities in Dilsukhnagar. In those days Narayana seva was regularly being conducted by Mr. U.R.V.S Subbarao, at Dilsukhnagar where as every second Sunday Saroornagar devotees used to participate. The major participation of devotees started after PremaJyothi (Light of Bhagavan) was brought to the houses of devotees in Saroornagar area. D.R. M. Veerabhadraiah, Prof. In central university used to give discoursed in the houses of devotees after Bhajans, for 20 minutes, enlightening the devotees about the avatar hood of Bhagavan. Subsequently, medical services were taken up on a small scale and checkup camps were being conducted every week in slum areas i.e. Bhagatsingh Colony behind Sri Venkateshwara colony. Doctors were being taken slum areas straight to treat the patients, by the Sevadal members. In the year 1991, one major medical camp was conducted in Loyola Convent School near Sri Venkateshwara Colony by inviting specialists from all fields like Heart, E.N.T, pediatrician, gynecologist etc. In which programme almost 2000 patients were benefited. As various service and devotional activities started, picking up we were inadequately in need of a common place to monitor various activities being taken up by Saroornagar unit. After great efforts we could find a place near Saroornagar bus stand called “Bharat Bhakta Samaj” where local youth used to do body building exercises every day in the early hours. After explaining the situation in which we placed, they agreed to give that building only on Sundays to continue our service activities. Devotees used to assemble there on every Sunday at 8 am for Bhajans and discourses and also to participate in service activities. Stationary Narayana Seva was being conducted on every second Sunday and nearly 300 Narayanas were being served. In the year 1991, Maha Nagarsankeertan was conducted in which nearly 3000 devotees were participated. It was a remarkable Nagarsankeertans, which was not heard in those days. Sri K.M. Rao Service Incharge, Shivam gave Aarati on that day. 25th Dec 1991: On the eve of Christmas Nagarsankeertans was conducted with candle lights in which regarding 100 devotees were participated. During this period Namajapams were regularly conducted. Akandha Bhajans were also conducted on special occasions like Maha Shivaratri and Global Akandha Bhajans. At last, Saroornagar was declared as separate Samithi during 1992. After formation of Samithi, Activities increased to enlighten Swami’s message to devotees, regular discourses on “Sadhana” were given by Dr. Mudigonda Veerabadraiah garu, Prof. in Central University in each household Bhajans for 15-20 minutes. During that period “Swami’s Tathvam” went into public more, so into devotees. Devotees were charged and inspired through His valuable discourses and they started participating in Swami’s Activities in large number.1992-November: 66th Birthday celebration of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba were conducted first time in Saroornagar Samithi, independently 66 Bhajans and 66 Nagarsankeertans were held in the housed of devotees, which became grand success in the Samithi. During birth day celebrations major Narayana Seva, Spiritual discourses by eminent persons like Dr. Ratnakar, and Sri. G.V. Subramanyam, V.C Telugu University were arranged. 1992-July: Physically handicapped day was being celebrated by Shivam every year. As a token of devotion, tools like sewing machines, telephone booths, and tricycles were distributed at Shivam in which Saroornagar Samithi devotees participated by raising donations. 1992-December: Bed sheets were being distributed to the poor and the needy during severe winter by the Samithi. 1993-April: Water camp was first started by Samithi in L.B. Nagar and water was served to the needy during hot summer for two months. This was later shifted to Kothapet. 1993-June: Note books and text books were distributed to the poor students in the beginning of every academic year. 1992-95: As there was no common place for us. Summer courses were conducted for three years, in Sri Subbaraju’s house for one week in first year and 3 days each in subsequent years. Eminent scholars like Dr. G.V. Subramanyam, Dr. Ratnakar, and Prof. Mudigonda Veerabadraiah gave wonderful discoursed about spirituality and about Swami’s message to the mankind. 1993-95: Excursions were also arranged to Bal-Vikas students by taking them to Indira Park. Balavikas classes were conducted in juvenile home in Saidabad. During this period fees and books were provided to two poor students to complete their post graduation courses. Bhajans were conducted in Chanchalguda Jail and fruits were distributed. While Sevadal Service Activities were going on from service center, i.e. Bharat Bhakta Samaj, the authorities of that Samaj asked us to vacate the premises immediately without any reason. It appeared that they expected that huge remuneration for using their premises, which we conducted not afford to. So we had to vacate abruptly. Again we were on the roads without having a common place for weekly meetings and to continue regular service activities. When we prayed Bhagavan to provide shelter, Swami sent a correspondent of a school situated in Sri Venkateshwara Colony and he offered all the class rooms for our use on Sundays graciously. We were keeping all the Puja articles, Swami Photo etc in a big wooden box, which was permitted to be kept in one of the class rooms by the correspondent. Major medical camps and other service activities were done from this place for some time. For the first time, Swami’s Avatar Prakatan Day celebrations were allotted to Saroornagar Samithi on 20-10-1997 by Shivam and the same was celebrated with Nagarsankeertan in the early hours nearly 300 devotees were participated in the rally. Narayanaseva was done in the afternoon. In the evening spiritual discourse was given by G.V. Subramanyam, V.C Telugu University in Shivam followed by cultural program i.e. Bhakta Prahlada Drama and Aarati. Most important activity that took place in Jan-1997 was thread ceremonies (Upanayanams) to 2000 young bachelors in the divine presence in Prashanti Nilayam. Parents were also allowed to sit along with the bachelors in Kulwant Hall before the divine presence. All the rituals were performed along with Vedic mantras and Swami came to each member and blessed with Divine Akshatas. That was a memorable and unforgettable event, which happens in once life. In the year 1996, it was a great occasion where “Silver Padukas” of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai were taken by thousands of devotees to Parthi for Swami’s blessings. One such pair of silver Padukas is now placed in our Mandir also. In the year 1997 Swami declared to provide drinking water to more than 700 villages in Anantapur district. Huge amounts, as donations were collected from the devotees for this noble cause and sent to Parthi for the water project. Along with other service activities, Sevadal members were being sent from Saroornagar Samithi to Prashanti Nilayam services. While activities were going on like this, there was sudden change in the leadership and Sri. N. Dayanand took over as convener in Jan-1998. During his period, trials were mad
